The analysis of counselling study trends for children with disabilities

Abstract
This study was to analyze the counselling program and study trends for children with special needs. Data were collected from 36 counselling studies since 2000. The selected studies were analyzed focusing on general study trend, contents and methods of counseling, and actions considering disability. The reliabilities were verified by 3 experts. Findings were as follows. First, in the general study trend, art counseling was the largest proportion of all types of counseling, and the study of mental retardation showed the most common type of all disability types. The study of elementary school was the largest proportion of all school courses. In research design, experimental research was implemented more than single subject research. Second, in the contents and methods of counseling, developing interpersonal relationship skill was treated mostly as the goal of counseling, and group counseling was more preferred than personal counseling. Under twenty sessions and sixty minutes were most chosen for proper counseling time. Third, in the actions considering disability, difficulty adjusting, causing interest, interaction promote as adjustments of contents, reducing session, moderator role time as those of practices, and placements, seat exchange, sound control as those of environments were adapted. It was suggested that finding of this study is basis data to develop counseling program for children with disabilities.
